Standard LCD TVs use a simple constant backlight to illuminate the image on trhe screen. But this type of lamp is too bright to display decent black images, so blacks can look grey and washed out.
LED backlight is a new technology that converts elctrical energy directly into light, producing a dramatic improvement in colour and contrast.
